surveying the scene…

The Western Front

In case you missed Nick Belcaster’s article on the local poetry scene in The Western Front (the official newspaper of Western Washington University), you can still read it online. Belcaster introduces several of Bellingham’s recurring poetry events, including the Kitchen Sessions, poetrynight, the Write Riot Slam and SpeakEasy.

While we’re at it, there are a number of other readings and open mics around town worthy of a mention, including Chuckanut Sandstone Writers Theater (second Wednesdays at the Colophon Café), Open Mic with Laurel Leigh (last Monday of the month at Village Books) and Creekside Open Mic (third Wednesdays at the Sudden Valley Community Center), as well as numerous book launches, readings, workshops and conferences. (See the Calendar page.) Poetry is alive and well in Bellingham, Washington!
