Boynton Awards!

Bellingham Cruise TerminalThe winners of the 10th annual Sue C. Boynton Poetry Contest have been selected by judges Caleb Barber and Jeanne Yeasting and will be recognized at a free, festive awards ceremony on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 7:00, at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. Fourteen of the 25 winning poets are students, with nine of those in elementary schools throughout Whatcom County.

The 2015 Walk Award winners are: Thomas Boyle (4th grade), Lauren Carr (12th grade), Cheryl A. Fear, Jacob Hartsoch, Rick Hermann, Liam Kudijaroff (4th grade), Jessica Lann (10th grade), Annie Roth (11th grade), Claire Stodola (3rd grade), and Devin Zook (11th grade). Their poems will be displayed on plaques outside the Bellingham Public Library (plaques will be installed this summer and remain in place for a full year).

The 2015 Merit Award winners are: Luther Allen, Tea Beaulieu (5th grade), Angela Belcaster, Lily Danke (4th grade), Owen Davis-Bower, Seth Friedman, Heidi Kenyon, Hazel Lauber (3rd grade), Paul Little, Eric Lochridge, Natalee Markowski (4th grade), Erica Reed, Chloe Rhodes (4th grade), Karen Vande Bossche, and Charles Walker (1st grade).

All winning poems will be displayed for a year on placards inside Whatcom Transportation Authority buses serving routes throughout the County. The placards include artwork by a number of local artists.

Please come honor the winners and hear the poets read their winning entries at this always-fun event. Kevin Murphy will emcee. The event and parking are free. All poems submitted will be on display and the winners will be included in an anthology of winning poems from 2010 through 2015, available for purchase.
