looking ahead: Whitman MOOC

Walt Whitman portrait by G. Frank E. PearsallThe University of Iowa International Writing Program offers a limited number of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which “are available to anyone who wishes to enroll; there is no cost to participants and there are no application requirements.”

In June 2016, IWP will offer Summoning the Dead: Whitman Writing War. This course will be taught by IWP Director and University of Iowa Professor of English, Christopher Merrill, and University of Iowa Roy J. Carver Professor of English and Whitman scholar, Ed Folsom. Registration will open in May 2016. To subscribe to the IWP mailing list and be notified when registration opens, complete this form.

In 2014, IWP’s first MOOC was Every Atom: Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself,” which centered on a series of video conversations between Ed Folsom and Christopher Merrill. You can visit the archive of that course to learn more.
