2016 poets for peace

Call for Submissions

Be a part of the conversation on the themes of peace and justice in Whatcom County, Washington, and around the world.

World Peace Poets and the Whatcom Peace and Justice Center invite you to submit your own original poems, prose, songs, comics, or artwork/graphics for posters or buttons by the submission deadline: Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2016.

The 4th Annual World Peace Poets Read-In will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. James Presbyterian Church in Bellingham. Doors open at 5:00pm for soup/salad supper and readings/performances continue til 9:30 or 10:00pm.

Submission Guidelines (may not be available elsewhere, so we offer them here):

Poetry: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Attach up to two (2) poems. Each poem must be no more than 44 lines long, including the title, single spaced. Each line is limited to 60 characters including spaces. Use the GARAMOND FONT ONLY.

Prose: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Attach up to two (2) prose pieces, each one no more than 44 lines long, including the title, single spaced. Each line is limited to 60 characters including spaces. Use the GARAMOND FONT ONLY.

Songs: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Attach one (1) song. Each complete song is to be no more than 44 lines long, including the title, single spaced. Each line is limited to 60 characters including spaces.The musical score or chording can be sent as a pdf. Use the GARAMOND FONT ONLY.

Comics: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Attach two (2) comics (we use this term very broadly) in pdf or jpeg format. The comic can be one to nine frames on an 8-1/2 by 11 sheet of paper, with half-inch margins on all four sides. No font requirements.

Posters or artwork: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Two (2) posters or artwork may be submitted. Attach each copy in a pdf or jpeg format. Artwork should not exceed 24 inches by 36 inches, and an original (provided by you) must be made available to be hung for display.

Buttons: send an e-mail with your name, e-mail and phone number. Four (4) buttons may be submitted. Attach each copy in a pdf or jpeg format. Artwork should not exceed 24 inches by 36 inches, and an original (provided by you) must be able to be hung for display.

All submissions will be considered for display at the 4th Annual World Peace Poets Read-In (words and songs) on Saturday, September 24, 2016. All submissions will be considered for one or more anthologies, which will (hopefully) be produced before October 15, 2016, but may be later. See our 2014 book Peace Poems at Village Books or online at Amazon.com. Additional readings will held in Whatcom County locations during October and November.
