Poetry Coalition

In what promises to be a powerful new voice for poetry, “Twenty nonprofit poetry organizations from across the United States have formed a historic coalition dedicated to working together to promote the value poets bring to our culture and communities, and the important contribution poetry makes in the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.”

As of December 6, 2016, Poetry Coalition member organizations include: the Academy of American Poets; the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and the National Student Poets Program; the Asian American Writers’ Workshop; CantoMundo; Cave Canem; the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival; Kundiman; the Lambda Literary Foundation; Letras Latinas at Notre Dame’s Institute for Latino Studies; Mass Poetry; O, Miami; the Poetry Center and American Poetry Archives at San Francisco State University; the Poetry Foundation; the Poetry Project; the Poetry Society of America; Poets House; Split This Rock; the University of Arizona Poetry Center; Urban Word and the National Youth Poet Laureate Program; and the Wick Poetry Center.

The Poetry Coalition’s first public offering, in March 2017, will be Because We Come From Everything: Poetry and Migration, in which each organization will present programs and projects on the theme of migration.
